The anachronistic futurist

A better recorded and more interesting video from the last band

(He’s my brother, she’s my sister)

Tap dance percussion

Last track from Morning teleprotation. This one is called Snow Frog Vs Motor Cobra.

Easily the most trippy song in the bands repitour, this song is mind blowing. It features a saxaphone, a talkbox, spitting, synths, and all manner of effects. [It manages to feature all of those things and still sound good!]

Stick with it at least until the two minute mark. (Although, honestly, the whole song is amazing.

Alexander - Truth - Alexander Ebert

This is one of the vocalists from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros. This song is moving, and rather powerful.

“The truth is that I never shook my shadow, every day he’s trying to trick me into doing battle.

He’s calling out faker, trying to get me rattled.

Wants to pull me back behind the fence with the cattle.

Building your lenses. Digging your trenches.

Put me on the front line, leave me with a dumb mind with no defenses, but your defense is if you can’t stand to feel the pain then you are senseless.

I’ve grown up some

Different kind of fighter

And when the darkness come let it inside you

Your darkness is shining

My darkness is shining

Have faith in myself

Truth

I’ve seen a million numbered doors on the horizon

Now which is the future you choosen before you gone dying.

I’ll tell you ‘bout a secret I’ve been underminding

Every little lie in this world come from dividing

Say you’re my lover, say you’re my homie,

Tilt my chin back slit my throat take a bath in my blood get to know me

All out of my secrets

All my enemies are turning into my teachers.

Because, lights blinding, no way dividing what’s yours or mine when everything’s shining

You darkness is shining my darkness is shining

Have faith in ourselves

Truth

Yes I’m only loving, only trying to only love

That’s what I’m trying to do is only loving

Yes I’m only lonely loving feeling only loving

Till I’m feeling only loving

Ya say it ain’t loving ain’t loving my loving

But I’m only loving only loving only loving

Only loving the truth.”

For a little while, I listened to this song almost every day.

It’s A Beautiful Day - Wasted Union Blues

Late 60s, west coast psych. Fuzz guitar, trippy lyrics, violin. It takes skill to pull it off, but these guys do a great job.

Super Sessions (Mike Bloomfield, Al Kooper, Stephen Stills) - Season of the Witch

This comes from one of the greatest live blues/folk improvisational albums of all time.

Donovan - Sunshine Superman (Original Stereo)

Underrated genius of pop, folk, psych-folk and psych-pop.

The Chocolate Watch Band - I Ain’t No Miracle Worker

Great 60s underground garage rock.
(Gee, that’s a mouthful.)
Thee American Revolution are Robert Schneider (Apples in Stereo) and brother in law Craig Morris.
“Buddha Electrostorm”

This is an amazing song, from an amazing band, fronted by a member of the Elephant 6 collective (the Athens, GA based group of musicians that, in the mid 90s, spawned such indie rock darlings as Neutral Milk Hotel and The Apples In Stereo.)

Here we have fuzzed out, semi-psychedelic, Hendrix style guitar, with a bit of modern rock sensibilities on the vocals. It’s dirty, almost grungy, and it’s enthralling. (It sounds a lot like what The Apples were, in the beginning. A far cry from where they are today.)

Disappoint, you will not be.

Lambert and Nuttycombe - At Home
Folk Psych.
More head music, in the same vein as “The Hangman’s Beautiful Daughter” by The Incredibly String Band.
This is another one of those albums that I never thought I’d see in person. I’ve only ever heard it once before (and that was in ultra compressed mp3s) and I hardly remember it. I remember enjoying it though. Looking forward to hearing it again.

Sweetwater - Self Titled

This band has a sad story. They could have been huge. They play the same kind of music that you’d expect to hear from Jefferson Airplane, It’s a Beautiful Day, The Doors, or some other airy sixties psych band. They were scheduled to open Woodstock (they didn’t. They played Second, but they still played.) They toured with The Doors and The Animals.
In 1969, the year after their first album was released, the lead singer was in a horrific car accident. She damaged her vocal chords and (more tragically) suffered some rather severe brain damage. This, more or less, haulted the band’s career.
Their second album was already finished, and was waiting to be released. Some unfinished recordings were polished up and eventually compiled into a third album. Neither of those really captured the magic of the first, and without their vocalist they were unable to produce new material.
And so, tragically, a band that could have been one of the greats ends up as little more than a footnote in the history of rock and roll.
This is their first album. It is amazing. I recommend you find it, and buy it.
(paid:$.77 sells:$30-$60)

The Flock - Self Titled and Dinasaur Swamp

The first two albums by The Flock (far better than the one that I included in the 70s photoset yesterday)

These first two albums are fairly rare, and occasionally fetch $20 or $30 each. I’m not planning on selling them, though. This is some Great music. Jazz/rock in the same vein as Blood Sweat and Tears, but with a prominent violin on nearly every track (as one might hear with another underrated gem, It’s a Beautiful Day.)

This is some great, flowing music. Perfect to put on in the background of a serious couple of hours of coding (or a serious couple of hours of smoking—so I am led to believe.)

And The cover of Dinosaur Swamps… Does it get any more awesome than that?

Sea Train - Marblehead Messenger

Another Sea Train Album . This time they opted for a new title, I thank them for that.

Another new lineup too, according to wikipedia.
I’m looking forward to giving it a spin.

JEFFERSON AIRPLANE - Volunteers
Not my favorite airplane album, but some great Head music none the less.
This isn’t the original pressing, but it is in great shape. I’ll leave it up to you to decide if you’d prefer an original pressing in fair condition or a later pressing in excellent condition. (I don’t have to decide, thanks to the goodwill I know have it both ways.)
